Marking the hundredth anniversary of the first screening of the Lumière brothers’ Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory, Harun Farocki assembled a montage from the many shots in the history of film and imagery that take “workers leaving the factory” as their subject.
Directed by Harun Farocki
Harun Farocki (1944–2014) was a renowned visual artist who made more than one hundred works for television, cinema, and video, including children’s television programs, documentaries, essay films, and fiction features. He was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. From 1974 to 1984 he worked as a writer and editor for the Munich magazine Filmkritik.
